is a rare form of cancer in which malignant cells are
found in the mesothelium, a protective sac that covers
most of the body’s internal organs. Most people who
develop it have worked on jobs where they inhaled
asbestos particles. It is typically associated with
exposure to asbestos. Work environments, such as asbestos
mills, mines, shipping yards are known for exposure to
asbestos and result is mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma was recognized as a tumor of the
plewa, peritoneum & pericardium in the late 1700’s.
However it was not untill much latter, in 1960 that this
particular type of tumor was described in more detail and

About ¾ of mesothelioma occurrences start in the
chest cavity and is known as pleural mesothelioma.
Another 10% to 20% begin in the abdomen and is called
